GREG NORMAN trailed Nick Faldo by five shots at the start of the final day of last December's Johnnie Walker World Championship in Jamaica. At the end of the day, Faldo crowned his golfing year on the first hole of the play-off, after Norman failed to win after missing a four-foot putt on the 18th green. This year's event at the Tryall Club in Montego Bay takes place from 16 to 19 December.

Nick Faldo, the champion, will be joined by 24 designated tournament winners, including the four majors. Bernhard Langer, the US Masters Champion, Lee Janzen, the US Open Champion, Paul Azinger, the US PGA Champion, and Greg Norman, the Open champion, will be among the elite entry on the links course that was redesigned for the first World Championship two years ago and upgraded last year.

The remaining three entries go to the leading players in the Sony World rankings, who have not qualified. Where players have won more than one of the tournaments, like Langer and Azinger, discretionary places will be allocated to make up the 28 places.

Golf World and Unijet, the Haywards Heath travel company, have combined to offer a 14-night package, from 6 to 20 December, for the Championship. Four rounds of golf at local courses are provided as an optional extra. Packages start at pounds 569 per person, rising to pounds 1,195 for a five-star hotel. Kuoni Travel, of Dorking, also provide packages to Jamaica. Prices start at pounds 599 for a seven-night package outside Montego Bay and pounds 859 for five-star accommodation.
