Chen Xinhua defends his singles title in the Uncle Ben's Senior National Championships at King's Lynn, Norfolk this weekend, though he is still troubled by a thigh injury. The No 1 seed, who now plays for Britain, is drawn to meet the 11-times winner, Desmond Douglas, at the semi-final stage. This leaves Carl Prean, last year's losing finalist, with another chance of the title. If the No 2 seed from the Isle of Wight reaches the semi-finals, Matthew Syed should be the obstacle between him and Chen. Lisa Lomas, of Luton, has again been made the women's No 1 seed despite losing in the semi- finals to Alison Gordon, from Reading, last year. However, the form of the European silver medallist this year makes her a clear favourite.

How to get there: Lynnsport Leisure Park, Green Park Avenue is in King's Lynn town centre. Qualifying rounds start at 9am tomorrow. On Sunday, play continues at 9am with the finals from 4pm. Admission: Saturday free; Sunday pounds 4 adults, pounds 2 children (Tel: 0553-777122).
