The final round of the Labatt's Husky Rally Championship series of six races takes place this weekend in Kielder Forest, Northumberland, where more than 100 teams of dogs and drivers will compete on forest trails of between 3 1/2 and six miles. Wintry conditions are forecast for Kielder, which could see the drivers or mushers being pulled around the forest on snow sleds, with the huskies in their element. In the absence of snow, the huskies will pull wheeled rigs. Simon Luxmoore, of Monmouth, has taken a commanding lead in the top division, the B class, but second place will be closely contested. Tomorrow, the B class (four to six dogs) starts at 9.30am, followed by C class (three or four) and D (two) class at 11am and 2pm. Start times on Sunday could be brought forward by one hour.

How to get there: Kielder Castle, Northumberland. From A1 or M6, take A69 to Hexham, then A6079 and B6320 (at Low Brunton) north to Bellingham; at Bellingham, turn west to Kielder Water and follow road to Kielder Castle.
