The Ecclesiastical Life Meeting in Gloucester this weekend is the third Grand Prix in the British Series which comprises five events and a Grand final. Among the women's entry are two Olympic swimmers, Helen Slatter and Joanne Deakins, who started her career with the Gloucester City club. Two of the men's entry will look to the meeting for particular success. Ian Wilson, the British 1500m champion, makes a comeback after injury, while Peter O'Sullivan, the 400m medley specialist who swam for Britain at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland, attempts, after a training spell in the United States, to regain an international place in time for this year's Games in Canada.

How to get there: Gloucester Leisure Centre, Bruton Way, is in the city centre, within walking distance from Gloucester BR station. Heats start at 9am today, tomorrow and Sunday. Finals begin at 5pm each day except Sunday (4pm). Admission: pounds 1.50 for heats, pounds 3 finals. Car parking is free but limited at Centre. Ample parking close to Centre. (Tel: 0452- 306498).
