Yorkshire's Suzanne Horner carried her defence of the Singapore Open Championship all the way to the fifth game of yesterday's final. But she was eventually beaten 15-17 13-15 15-6 15-4 15-12 by Michelle Martin, the top seed from Australia. Horner, the 31-year- old British champion from Wakefield, defeated the world No 2 Liz Irving in the semi-finals, but could not hold the world champion despite narrowly capturing the first two games. Martin defeated another Australian, Sarah FitzGerald, in a four-game semi-final which left her the fresher of the two finalists.
