Peter Marshall ensured that England would have two semi-finalists for the first time in 44 years at the British Open when he overwhelmed the 16th-seeded Australian Anthony Hill 9-1, 9-1, 9-1 in the quarter-finalsat Wembley, writes James Leigh. Marshall, the

double-handed British champion, thus scored one of his quickest ever wins, only 17 minutes long, and reached the first British Open semi-final of his career. Hill, the man who progressed on Wednesday after being head-butted by Mir Zaman Gul, was hardly in it from halfway through the second game onwards against Marshall. Later Chris Walker beat Mark Cairns 9-7, 4-9, 9-3, 9-2 in an all-England match to join Marshall in the semi-finals. England's Martine le Moignan, the former world champion, lost in the quarter-finals 9-2, 9-3, 9-2 to Michelle Martin, the title holder from Australia.
