Roy Keane's season looks to be over after an X-ray revealed a chipped ankle bone and ligament damage, which will require surgery.

The Manchester United midfielder is due to answer a disrepute charge after being sent off and could have an automatic three-match ban extended by the Football Association, but whatever the outcome he has little chance of making the FA Cup final against Everton on 20 May.

Definitely out for the season is the Coventry goalkeeper, Steve Ogrizovic, who broke his ankle in two places during a friendly at Northampton on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klinnsman will be called to a meeting with the Tottenham chairman Alan Sugar next week to sort out the German's future. Spurs' shares fell eight pence yesterday amid speculation that the striker could be close to agreeing a £2m deal with Bayern Munich.

A Sheffield United supporter was arrested yesterday by police investigating an incident in which the former England manager Graham Taylor was spat on. The unemployed car mechanic voluntarily walked into a Sheffield police station.

Bill Lamont has been sacked as the manager of the Scottish Third Division club, Alloa.
