Tennis / Wimbledon '93: Fines for Courier and Masur
JIM COURIER, the No 3 seed, was yesterday fined dollars 1,500 ( pounds 1,020), and the Australian Wally Masur dollars 750, for swearing in their third-round matches at Wimbledon on Saturday.
Courier was fined for uttering an audible obscenity during his match with Australian Jason Stoltenberg and admitted afterwards that he had sworn and deserved the penalty. Masur received a code violation in his match with Arnaud Boetsch.
Last week, Patrick McEnroe, Paul Haarhuis and Patrik Kuhnen were fined for swearing, while the Croat fifth seed Goran Ivanisevic was ordered to pay a dollars 2,000 for failing to attend an obligatory press conference and a further dollars 500 for hurling his racket to the ground.
