Sam Smith, of Essex, overcame a spirited fightback by Shirli-Ann Siddall to reach the final of the LTA satellite event in Sunderland yesterday. Siddall, the 21-year-old from Dorset, lost the first set 6-3 and only started to play from 5-0 down in the second, mixing up her game to break Smith and hold her own serve to love. But she failed to build on her mini- recovery and Smith, the No 1 seed, duly took the match 6-3, 6-2 to progress to the final, where she will meet the No 2 seed Raluca Sandu of Romania.Reuse content
