Tennis: Dehydrated Maleeva quits championship
The top seed, Magdalena Maleeva, was forced to withdraw from the Australian Women's Hardcourt Championship yesterday after suffering severe dehydration in heatwave conditions. The Bulgarian, 18, had to forfeit her semi-final against Argentina's Florencia Labat. Today's final will be between Labat and Lindsay Davenport, of the United States, who beat Taipei's Shi-ting Wang 6-2, 6-4 in the other semi-final. In today's Australian Men's Hardcourt Championship final in Adelaide, the Russians Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Alexander Volkov meet.
