Andy Murray may have to beat the world's two best players to win Wimbledon, but after yesterday's draw the Briton should be grateful he is not in Rafael Nadal's shoes.
Nadal is seeded to meet Roger Federer in the final, but is likely to have to negotiate a treacherous route. The world No 1's first-round opponent is Japan's Kei Nishikori, after which he may have to beat James Blake, Ernests Gulbis, John Isner, Robin Soderling and then Murray.
Murray should have a chance to play his way into the tournament. The Scot's opening match will be against the Czech Republic's Jan Hajek (world No 80).
The rankings suggest that Murray should then play Finland's Jarkko Nieminen (No 64) in the second round, France's Gilles Simon (No 32) in the third and Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero (No 17) or the American Sam Querrey (No 21) in the fourth. Fernando Verdasco (No 9) or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (No 10) could await in the quarter-finals, followed by Nadal.
Jamie Baker, the only other Briton in the men's singles, faces Germany's Andreas Beck, the world No 78.
Of the top seeds, Federer has been given the easiest task. The defending champion will open proceedings on Centre Court on Monday against Colombia's Alejandro Falla, who has lost to the Swiss twice in the last month.
