Johanna Konta upset eighth seed Lauren Davis in an epic match lasting more than three hours to progress to the second round of Yinzhou Bank International Women’s Tennis Open in China on Monday.

The British No 3 and world No 125, looking to build on her quarter-final appearance in Guangzhou last week, fired down nine aces compared to just one from her higherranked American opponent as she claimed a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win.
