Murray shocks Hewitt to win first title

Andy Murray completed the most successful week of his professional life last night when he beat Australia's Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 in the final of the SAP Open in San Jose, California. It was the 18-year-old Briton's first ATP tour title and his second big win in 24 hours after his semi-final victory over Andy Roddick, the world No 3.

Hewitt began the match confidently, breaking Murray's serve on only the second game of the first set before racing away to take the set. Murray countered immediately and rekindled his hopes of victory by twice breaking Hewitt at the start of the second.

Murray also made a flying start to the final set when breaking Hewitt in the second game, but the Australian immediately hit back with a break of his own.

The tension grew even further and Hewitt saved two match points when 5-4 and 6-5 down, the first with a 122mph ace, as the epic tussle went to a tie-break, which Murray won 7-3.
