Britain's Andy Murray battled his way into the quarter-finals of the ABN AMRO Tournament in Rotterdam yesterday with a 7-6, 7-5 victory in an error-strewn meeting with Andreas Seppi in Rotterdam.

Seppi beat Rafael Nadal in the second round last year and he caused an out-of-sorts British No 1 plenty of problems before he finally sealed victory.

The second seed took a topsy-turvy first set on a tie-break and then battled back from a break down to seal a meeting with Frenchman Marc Gicquel in the last eight. Murray was not at his best but pulled through.
