Nick Kyrgios reached his first Masters Series semi-final with victory over Milos Raonic at the Miami Open.

The 20-year-old Australian beat the tournament's 12th seed 6-4 7-6 (7-4) to progress to the last four, where he will meet Japan's Kei Nishikori.

Here's 20 things you may not know about the exciting yet unpredictable talent...

20 things you may not know about Nick Kyrgios

1 By reaching the semi-finals in Miami the Australian has guaranteed that he will break into the world’s top 20 for the first time. At the age of 20 he will be the youngest top 20 player for seven years.

2 His quarter-final victory over Gael Monfils in Miami was his 14th victory of the year. In 2015 he did not record his 14th victory until the first round of Wimbledon.

3 In February he became the youngest active player on the men’s tour to win a title when he beat Marin Cilic in the final in Marseille.

4 He is a former world junior No 1.

5 When he beat Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon two years ago, as the world No 144, he was the first man outside the top 100 to beat a world No 1 at a Grand Slam tournament since 1992.

6 He has not had a permanent coach since parting company with Todd Larkham last summer.

7 His father, George, is a Greek painter. His mother, Norlaila, is a computer software engineer from Malaysia.

8 He had the number 74 tattooed on one of his fingers in honour of his grandmother, who died at the age of 74.

9 His middle name is Hilmy.

10 In Australia he divides his time between Canberra, where he was born, and Melbourne, where Tennis Australia, the country’s governing body, is based.

11 He is reported to be dating another Australian tennis player, Alja Tomljanovic, with whom he played mixed doubles earlier this year.

12 He once told GQ Australia that he did not subscribe to the idea of abstaining from sex before an important match. “I don’t abide by that at all,” he said.

13 He likes cars. Two years ago he was driving a Mercedes sports car and last year he was at the wheel of a BMW M3.

14 He loves playing and watching basketball. The Boston Celtics are his favourite team and his favourite player is Kevin Garnett.

15 He says his parents pushed him into playing tennis rather than basketball. “I don’t really like the sport of tennis that much,” he says. “I don’t love it”.

16 Roger Federer is the player he admires the most. “Week in, week out, he’s such a great role model on and off the court”.

17 He admitted last year that he and Nadal “probably don’t have the greatest relationship” but added: “I’m more than open to having lunch with the guy or something like that”.

18 When he played doubles with his fellow Australian Bernard Tomic at last year’s Shanghai Masters they played rock-paper-scissors to decide who would receive serve on game points.

19 He has three dogs, called Thor, Papa and King.

20 The Elena Baltacha Foundation is one of several charities that he supports.
