Robson knocked out in first round
Great Britain's Laura Robson was beaten in straight sets yesterday in the first round of the WTA Pan Pacific Open by the Hungarian Greta Arn.
The world No 106 triumphed 6-4, 6-3 against the 16-year-old, ranked 227, after the pair had come through qualifying in Tokyo. Arn, 31, will face Caroline Wozniacki in round two after the world No 2 and top seed received a first-round bye.
Meanwhile Gilles Simon, untroubled by the new challenges of fatherhood, won his seventh ATP title when he beat German qualifier Mischa Zverev 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the Metz International on Sunday.
The eighth-seeded Frenchman, whose season has been hampered by a knee injury, served perfectly throughout to prevail in 67 minutes against Zverev, who had beaten him in their two previous encounters.
