Tottenham’s route to sign Hulk on loan from Zenit St. Petersburg has become clearer, with Zenit reportedly in talks to sign Andrei Yarmolenko from Dynamo Kiev.

It is understood Zenit are demanding a hefty fee for the season-long loan of Hulk, believed to be around £10m, but the Brazilian is strongly admired by Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas, who worked with him at Porto, winning the treble in 2011.

Zenit’s reasoning for such as high loan fee is the fact they paid £50m for the 27-year-old only 12 months ago. But Hulk’s time in Russia has been far from successful, scoring only eight goals in 21 league matches. The Ukraine international Yarmolenko, 23, was once touted as the “new Shevchenko” and is seen as a direct replacement.

Villas-Boas’ need for another forward could soon become greater with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor both linked with moves away from White Hart Lane before 11pm tonight.

Spending the reported £85m from Gareth Bale’s transfer to Real Madrid, Tottenham have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window – splashing out £109m on seven players, including Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Christian Eriksen, Vlad Chiriches, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue and Erik Lamela.
