The wrestling star CM Punk, real name Phillip Jack Brooks, has placed himself at the centre of controversy by attacking the world’s largest cancer charity.

The former wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter, made his comments on Monday night, accusing the Susan G Komen charity of being “a scam”.

The breast cancer charity partners with WWE each year, turning the wrestling company pink in an attempt to raise money for curing cancer.

Punk himself has represented the cause when he used to work for WWE. But he is now casting doubt on if the charity actually raises money to find a cure for cancer.

“If you’re going to give money to a company that claims to raise money for finding a cure for cancer, please do some research. Komen is a scam,” he stated on Twitter.

“The truth is never popular. F*** all you crazy asses. Read a book,” he added.

Andrea Rader, a spokeswoman for the charity, urged people to look at its website to learn more about its work.

“Susan Komen’s record for leadership in breast cancer research, community outreach and patient advocacy is well established and unquestioned,” she said.

“WWE has been an extraordinary partner in our mission to find cures for breast cancer while helping women and men today. Our mission programmes and financial statements are all clearly communicated on our website.”
