Nike spend around $1billion to replace adidas as kit supplier for the NBA

American sportswear giant Nike have replaced adidas as the official kit supplier for the National Basketball Association (NBA).

According to reports in the US the eight-year deal, which begins in the 2017-18 season, has cost the company $1billion (approx £650million), a 245 per cent increase on the previous deal.

German brand adidas began an 11-year deal with the NBA in 2006 but announced it would not look to extend their agreement.

For the first time in league history, the logo will appear on game jerseys.

"This partnership with Nike represents a new paradigm in the structure of our global merchandising business," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement.

"As our exclusive on-court apparel provider, Nike will be instrumental in our collective efforts to grow the game globally while applying the latest in technology to the design of our uniforms and on-court products."
