Rajon Rondo: Dallas Mavericks acquire four-time All-Star in trade from the Boston Celtics

Four-time All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo has been traded to the Dallas Mavericks by the Boston Celtics.

Rondo, who leads the NBA in assists with 10.8-per-game, joins Dirk Nowitzki and Co along with rookie centre Dwight Powell, with three players and two draft picks sent the other way.

Forwards Brandan Wright and Jae Crowder and point guard Jameer Nelson join the Celtics, along a 2015 first-round draft pick and 2016 second-round pick.

Rondo, 28, is viewed as one of the best point guards in the NBA, though he has struggled with injury in recent seasons, missing 52 games last year, 44 the year before and 29 in 2011-12.

He is a four-time All-Star and has also been named four times to the All-NBA Defensive Team as well as the All-NBA third team in 2012.

He led the league in assists in 2012 and 2013, and was a crucial part of Boston's championship winning team in 2008 and the team that lost in the 2010 Finals.

"My time in Boston has meant so much," Rondo wrote on Twitter. "I've grown up with this city both as a basketball player and person. The love I have for the most loyal And supportive fans in the league is unmatched.

"I look forward to building something special in Dallas."
