An American university has suspended one of their American football players for yelling “F*** her right in the p****” on top of a table in the middle of campus.

Florida State quarter-back Jameis Winston, last season's Heisman Trophy winner,  will miss the first half of the Seminoles' match against Clemson on Saturday as punishment for shouting the foul-mouthed phrase near FSU's student union on Tuesday, according to students that witnessed the American football player.

The university’s athletic director Stan Wilcox and interim president Garrett Stokes released a statement on Wednesday to confirm the punishment of Winston, whose “offensive and vulgar comments” had gone against what is expected of Florida State representatives.

The statement, as reported by Warchant.com, says: “As the university's most visible ambassadors, student-athletes at Florida State are expected to uphold at all times high standards of integrity and behavior that reflect well upon themselves, their families, coaches, teammates, the Department of Athletics and Florida State University. Student-athletes are expected to act in a way that reflects dignity and respect for others.

“As a result of his comments yesterday, which were offensive and vulgar, Jameis Winston will undergo internal discipline and will be withheld from competition for the first half of the Clemson game.

“The University and athletics department will have no further comment on the matter.”

Winston later made his own statement, in which he apologised for his actions.

"First of all, I want to apologise to the university, my coaches and to my teammates," Winston said. "I'm not a 'me' person, but in that situation, it was a selfish act, and that's not how you do things around here."

The foul-mouthed phrase that Winston shouted was originally a fake video that quickly became an online meme, going viral with many social media users editing the video to incorporate well known sport stars.

Things came to a head in the United Kingdom on transfer deadline day, when Sky Sports’ coverage outside stadiums became blighted with rowdy and ignorant fans that did their best to ruin the coverage by yelling the same phrase as well as throwing sex toys at the reporters live on TV.

For Winston, the incident is even more embarrassing after quotes he made in August 2013 compared the actions of Johnny 'Football' Manziel to himself.

"If I get Manziel disease, I want every one of you all to get your mikes and start slapping me on the head," Winston told reporters.
