Continuous development of professional engineers coupled with new innovative technologies are the driving forces behind progress at Bosch Rexroth Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH.

With Rexroth at the forefront in the development of renewable energy solutions such as wind turbines and wave and flow energy generators, and with clean energy projects such as the development of cleaner diesel engines, there will be increased opportunities for young engineers to get involved in exciting, cutting edge projects that will positively impact on the future.

The Rexroth Apprenticeship Programme ensures that the young engineers of the future are provided with a clear, supported path to professional qualifications.

Based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, we start by selecting school leavers with the right aptitude and attitude to embark upon apprenticeships. Through a process of continuous mentoring and reviewing, we produce high quality engineers. This high quality is proven by our recent success at the EEF Apprentice of the Year Awards, at which three of our apprentices entered the regional awards while one won the regional title and came runner-up in the national competition overall.

In the UK, Rexroth also has an established Graduate Trainee Programme. We encourage our graduates to develop the skills to be able to lead the business into the future, equipping them with vital professional engineering and management qualifications. Such skills are imperative as the graduates are involved in many exciting projects that have significant impact on the quality of the services we provide to our customers.

Meanwhile, in Holland, the new Bosch Rexroth Systems and Engineering Academy is an exciting new international development, taking hydraulic engineers and sales engineers from around the Rexroth world and bringing them together to exchange ideas.

The Academy gives attendees the opportunity to develop projects with their peers from different countries. An excellent example of what can happen when you put talented young engineers together is the Wave Energy Converter, that is due for trials off the coast of Scotland this year. A further example is an indoor moveable roof that they worked on for a sports stadium in Spain. The Academy provides young engineers with the chance to become project specialists and is a great example of providing an opportunity for people to further both themselves and Rexroth.

I sincerely hope that, somewhere within the business in the UK, there is a young engineer who believes that one day they might want to do my job? but not quite yet, as we are entering such an exciting time for the business with our development of renewable energy technology, clean energy technology and the expansion of our service network, that it would be a shame to miss out on all the excitement!
