Are you an aspiring travel writer? We’re looking for someone to write a blog based on a six-week exploration of European heritage sponsored by one of the world’s biggest brewers.

Brewing in Europe began over a thousand years ago and the story of beer’s role in the development of European culture offers a fascinating insight into the rituals, traditions, sayings and places that remain at the heart of societies we recognise today.
One lucky winner will win an all expenses paid trip to seven European countries including The Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Italy, Hungary and Holland spending a minimum of four nights in each country.
The winners will have their travel blog posted on The Independent website for the duration of their trip.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. To enter please answer the question in no more then 200 words at competitions@independent.co.uk 2. Competition closing date is October 17th. Up to 10 Finalists will be chosen, each finalist will be contacted by Oct 24th and will be required to take part in a second round. 3. The countries to be visited are: The Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Italy, Hungary, Holland with a minimum of 4 nights spent in each country. 4. The trip is a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 6 weeks. 5. The winner is required to visit an SABMiller brewery in each country 6. The prize is up to the value of £5,000 of travel, accommodation and subsistence. An additional £1,000 will be given to the winner to cover ad hoc expenses incurred on the trip. 7. The £5,000 travel allowance is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash or other prizes. 8. The winner will be required to spend two days in SABMiller’s London office, to plan their itinerary with the assistance of Global Travel Management and SABMiller’s in-country teams. If the winner is from outside of London travel and Accommodation expenses will be covered. 9. The winner will be required to make all reservations through Global Travel Management. 10. The winner will be required to submit a blog for the duration of the trip. The length of the blog will be a minimum of 400 words. The winner is required to submit at least one blog per country visited. 11. The trip must be completed before 31st March 2009. 12. If the winner of the travel writing competition is a student, travel must be taken by March 31st. If these dates coincide with course times, permission from a guardian and tutor is required. 13. Whilst beer culture and brewing heritage is at the heart of the travel blog, the winner is under no obligation to consume alcohol and does so at his or her own discretion and risk. 14. If alcohol is consumed, the winner will be expected to drink responsibly at all times and to conduct themselves in a manner which does not bring SABMiller or The Independent into disrepute. 15. Acquiring and paying for any and all insurance, including but not limited to travel insurance is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the winner but may be purchased within the terms of the travel allowance. 16. SABMiller plc and The Independent News & Media Limited (INM) are not responsible for the personal health, safety or belongings of the winner. 17. The winner is strongly advised to consult and comply with the views of the diplomatic and consular authorities of each country on his or her itinerary in respect of travel conditions and safety of travellers applicable in the countries to be visited under this competition. 18.
