Huddersfield University Business School
Age: 12 in its present form.
History: Began as two distinct schools, the school of Accountancy, Law and Management and the school of business, in the 1970s.
Addresses: Main campus in Huddersfield, with satellite campuses in Oldham and Barnsley.
Ambience: The town centre campus is set alongside the River Colne, and a restored canal runs through its centre. The beautiful Yorkshire countryside is within easy reach. The Oldham and Barnsley campuses have modern facilities located in their respective town centres.
Vital statistics: Over 3,000 students and 140 staff, broken down into four departments: accountancy, strategy and marketing, the Law School, and leadership and management. There are over 40 undergraduate programmes and 20 postgraduate programmes, and three MBAs: a full-time; block version and part-time.
Added value: Awarded ACCA gold status, and accredited by the CMI and the CIPD. The school says the MBA programme provides "academically rigorous management education and a sound foundation for developing and enhancing management performance".
Easy to get into? You need a 2.2 honours degree and a minimum of two years' work experience for the MBA. For the part-time MBA, 80 per cent of applicants are offered places.
Glittering alumni: Rob James-Collier, who played Liam Connor in Coronation Street; Chris Marshall, deputy chief constable of West Yorkshire Police.
Gurus: Professor Chris Cowton, editor of Business Ethics: A European Review; Colin Drury, Emeritus Chair of Accountancy; Professor John Thompson, chair of entrepreneurship, Glenn Hardaker, multicultural education.
International connections: The school delivers its programme in a wide range of countries including Hong Kong, Singapore and Jordan. It also has strong links with Russia through its Russian British Business Centre.
Teaching: Has consistently high student satisfaction ratings in the National Student Survey. The department of accountancy was the highest rated in Yorkshire and 4th in the country in 2008.
Student profile: Full-time MBA students are aged between 23 and 50; part-timers between 25 and 55. There are the same number of men as women on both courses.
Cost: The full-time option is £10,460 for EU students; £10,480 for non-EU. The part-time course is £6,225.
Return on investment: An immediate salary rise of 10 per cent.
