History: The Faculty of Organisation and Management was set up in 2004, but the university has offered management education for over 25 years.

Address: Based at the City campus, in the heart of lively Sheffield.

Vital statistics: Big on innovative and flexible programmes. Offers full-time, part-time and flexible "blended learning" masters courses in specialist areas of management; sector-focused masters programmes as well as MBAs and a DBA.

Added value: Hot on real consultancy projects, applied research, work-related assignments, internet-based resources and communications, and supporting working professionals returning to learning. Close links with professional bodies, with many courses leading to professional accreditation.

Easy to get into? Typically a relevant degree, plus three years' work experience for most part-time postgraduate programmes.

Glittering alumni: The managing director of Dartington Crystal; director general of the prison service; chief executive of Corinthia Leisure; marketing director of Intercontinental Brand; and the executive director of Rohas-Euco Industries BHD (Malaysia) were all at Sheffield Hallam.

International connections: Formal links with universities throughout western Europe, America, Canada and Hong Kong, and they have an MBA delivered with the Masaryk Institute of Prague and Masters programmes delivered in Ireland. Recent student visits have included Skoda Auto, Prague; Guinness and Motorola, Ireland; and the European Commission, Brussels.

Student profile: The average age on the full-time postgraduate programmes is 29, on the part-time 30. The female to male ratio is about even, and students hail from 46 different countries.

Cost: Full-time postgraduate programmes for EU nationals range from £3,760 to £7,720; part-time programmes from £5,290 to £16,800.
