Roger Federer celebrates after his 6-4, 7-6 victory yesterday

At 31 years old he is very much the game's elder statesman, but on an indoor court and at the season-ending championships Roger Federer remains the man to beat. The Swiss became the first player to qualify for Sunday's singles semi-finals here at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals yesterday when he handed out his customary drubbing to David Ferrer.

Jessie Cave: Bookworm, Underbelly, Edinburgh

Jessie Cave would be the first to admit that she is one of life’s more precocious characters. A former tennis champion who used to play with the Murrays, her career was cut short by injury when she was 15. Her next move was into acting, most famously playing Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films. Now 25, she has turned to comedy and has already worked with Simon Amstell on Grandma’s House.

My Secret Life: Tim Key, poet and comedian, 35

My parents are... Carol and Bill. They are both retired. Carol is flourishing, Bill is on a sharp descent towards Meldrewdom. He recently had a letter published in the local paper where he vented his spleen about the wording on signs for cyclists. They continue to be supportive and are delighted when I do any comedy without swearing.

Murray will be under pressure in first-round tie, insists opponent

Roger Federer's experience yesterday against Alejandro Falla underlined the fact that nothing can be taken for granted, but if Andy Murray had hand-picked his first-round opponent here this afternoon he would no doubt have come up with someone like Jan Hajek.

Sport on TV: Heart sinks as soppy Robson goes green around the gills

He's letting down the Geordie nation. At the start of Robson Green's Wild Swimming Adventure (ITV1, Tuesday) he decided to take a dip in the Tyne and had to be fished out almost immediately. "My body shut down after 200 yards," he admitted before asking his rescuers when was the last time someone had gone in the river. "Friday night" was the answer, "and they were off their heads." Obviously Green should have had a few Newcastle Brown Ales before he jumped in the drink.
