Audley Harrison retired from boxing yesterday

Boxing: Farewell to Audley Harrison, a fighter who lacked a brutality gene

Audley Harrison was retired a long time ago, not by his own agency but that of others raining punches. Harrison was a boxer who was distinctly uncomfortable in the upper echelons of the paid ranks. This makes him a failure on his own terms, for it was he who spoke about destiny and world titles, but not in the wider sense of a man turning his life around through sport and achieving what none could for 32 years in a British boxing vest: claiming Olympic gold.

Boxing: David Price squares up to Tony Thompson

David Price will face former world title challenger Tony Thompson in his next heavyweight bout.

Darren Barker stops Kerry Hope on Saturday 8 December. It was one of 58 fights that took place in Britain that night

Bunce on Boxing: Record 58 fights in one night reveals a booming business

On Saturday 8 December a new record was set for professional boxing in Britain when 58 fights took place on one night. The previous highest record was set on a cold Monday night on February 4 1952 at a time of great upheaval and hardship. I have no idea how many of the fighters on that night 60 years ago had picked up the gloves during their national service but I would imagine the figure is high.

Canvas opinion: David Price says Olympians are taking a risk by participating in the new World Series of Boxing

Boxing: Price tells Olympic stars to use spending power

It is exactly eight weeks since Britain's weekend of glory in the Olympic boxing ring. Time enough for the fistful of fighters who departed the ExCeL with medals draped around their necks to cash them in for the brighter lights and supposedly bigger paydays awaiting them in the professional game. But so far none has put pen to contract, and maybe some never will.

Big attraction: A professional career will be calling Anthony Joshua if he wins the super-heavyweight title

Boxing: Anthony Joshua has key to future riches in his fast hands

London's Olympics have been a knockout, but there's no doubt who will be Britain's biggest hit of the Games. If Anthony Joshua, one of the two British boxers in this afternoon's finals, wins the super-heavyweight title, he will be within striking distance of a gold mine.

Britain's Euan Burton was inconsolable after his defeat in the judo

Chris Hewett: Gone for a Burton but Euan deserves a medal for honesty after defeat

The critic without a ticket: He listed all those he felt he had let down – only the dog, cat and goldfish were spared a mention

James Corrigan: If it's blood we want we may need to look elsewhere after the fiasco in Hamburg

The Way I See It: Haye is contemptible and Wladimir Klitschko had every right to be the graceless winner, labelling the oaf "a disgrace to the sport of boxing"

James Lawton: Shadow-boxing stops here. It's now time for Haye to punch his weight

Sometimes it is necessary to give a man, any man, however crass, however borderline moronic, his due and surely this will be so when David Haye steps into the ring with Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg tonight.
