League round-up: McDonald has Dons on the rise

Charlie McDonald's third goal in three games, a 45th-minute header from Darren Potter's centre, set Milton Keynes Dons on their way to a third consecutive away win as the League One leaders stretched their unbeaten start to the campaign to six matches with a 3-1 win at Carlisle United. Potter added the Dons' second, and after Lee Miller pulled a goal back, Dean Lewington's strike just after the hour wrapped up the points.

Brian Viner: Scot profits as Gimeno-Traver goes from Barcelona to Bagshot Rovers

It would be understating matters to say that it wasn't exactly in the script for Andy Murray to go a set down in his first-round match against Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver under the Centre Court roof last night. Think of a speech meant for Bobby De Niro being improvised by Bobby Davro and that was how much it wasn't in the script.

Dean Richards: Former Wolves and Spurs defender, once England's most expensive uncapped player

The BBC football pundit Alan Hansen knows a thing or two about centre-halves, having been one of the finest the British game has ever seen during his playing days with Liverpool, so it was worth listening in 1996 when he described Dean Richards as the most promising young central defender in England. The tall, commanding Yorkshireman, who combined brawn and elegance to an unusual degree, became the costliest player in the land without a full international cap when he switched from Southampton to Tottenham Hotspur for £8.1m in 2001.

League round-up: Leeds in a flap over Swans wings as Sinclair pair lifts Welsh hopes

Scott Sinclair scored twice as Swansea City ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Leeds United at the Liberty Stadium, consolidating their grip on the Championship's second automatic promotion place. Swans took the lead after 13 minutes, Sinclair cutting in from the left to play a one-two with Luke Moore and fire in. As Leeds got a foothold near half-time Swans defender Alan Tate handled, but no penalty was given. The visitors' revival did not last long after the break. Ten minutes into the second period a foul on Nathan Dyer saw Sinclair tuck away the penalty and in the 72nd minute Moore made it 3-0.
