Cultural Life: Rosamund Pike, actress

Film: My favourite cinema is the Arclight Hollywood. I saw a double bill there recently: Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere', followed by 'The Fighter'. I found 'Somewhere' slight in comparison. But I'd stayed at the Chateau Marmont and I was curious to see 'Somewhere'. I'd always thought it would be fun to capture that hotel, as it holds a special place in my LA life. 'Blue Valentine' was very painful to watch and it doesn't change your life. 'The King's Speech' lets you right in. The director told a true and simple story, very beautifully.

The secret to staying alert? Good genes

When late night TV host Jay Leno reclaims "The Tonight Show" on Monday, NBC is banking that the ratings spiral that marked Conan O'Brien's brief tenure as host will quickly fade to a dim memory.

Super Bowl Diary: Brangelina's Public Display of Affection

Preparing, perhaps, for yesterday's announcement that they are to sue the News of the World over "false allegations" that they are splitting up, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie turned the game into one big Public Display of Affection. The starry couple, who own a house in New Orleans' French Quarter, spent Super Bowl afternoon at the stadium, rooting for their team while exchanging hugs, smiles, and high-fives for the cameras.

O'Brien ends 'Tonight Show' stint on a high

Early ratings suggest that Conan O'Brien won a hefty audience for his final hour hosting The Tonight Show, which he has been forced to give up to the former host Jay Leno after tumultuous negotiations with the NBC network that have been plastered across the American press.

Making of the fast and the famous

You’d be brave, or mad, to try and remake a movie great like The Great Escape. Likewise, trying to remake the most cultish of cult car movies, Rendezvous, made nearly 25 years ago when Claude Lelouche shot a high speed dash across Paris at dawn, would be petrolhead and cinematic suicide. ‘The Run’, shot by a Hollywood film crew and stunt drivers, using Nissan 350Z’s on closed Prague roads, showed how big bucks do not create a better sequel.
