Travel challenge: A trekking holiday in Peru
Saturday 19 March 2011
Every week we invite competing companies to give us their best deal for a specific holiday. Today: a 10-day trek in Peru. Prices are for two people travelling together and departing in mid-June...
£1,920: Trails of Peru
The group trip departs from Lima on 12 June and includes transport within Peru, nine nights' accommodation, some meals and an Inca Trail trek. International flights are not included. "If you want to trek in the footsteps of the ancient Incas along the renowned Inca Trail and explore the heart of the Inca Empire, you'll love Trails of Peru," says Bec Whiffin, at Tucan Travel (020-8896 1600; tucantravel.com).
£7,190: Mountain Lodges of Peru
The small group trip includes Iberia flights from Heathrow via Madrid on 13 June, hotel stays in Cusco and Lima, accommodation in small mountain lodges along the Inca trail, most meals, transfers and guided sightseeing. "This itinerary allows travellers the chance to enjoy superb Andean trekking to Machu Picchu, on a route where only a handful of people walk each day, with proper beds, cooking and showers at the end of each day," says Dave Orrock of Bales Worldwide (08456 345 118; balesworldwide.com).

£4,990: Santa Cruz trek
The individual trip includes flights from Heathrow departing 13 June, plus all accommodation and meals on the trek, and private transfers. "This is great value in high season. June is a fabulous month to be trekking in the mountains of Peru – both in the Cordillera Blanca and the Andes," says Alison Hollman of W&O Travel. "If you love the outdoors, these moderate-level hikes to Machu Picchu, and along the Santa Cruz trail, are iconic experiences." (0845 277 3366; wandotravel.com)
