The group trip departs from Lima on 12 June and includes transport within Peru, nine nights' accommodation, some meals and an Inca Trail trek. International flights are not included. "If you want to trek in the footsteps of the ancient Incas along the renowned Inca Trail and explore the heart of the Inca Empire, you'll love Trails of Peru," says Bec Whiffin, at Tucan Travel (020-8896 1600; tucantravel.com).
£7,190: Mountain Lodges of Peru
The small group trip includes Iberia flights from Heathrow via Madrid on 13 June, hotel stays in Cusco and Lima, accommodation in small mountain lodges along the Inca trail, most meals, transfers and guided sightseeing. "This itinerary allows travellers the chance to enjoy superb Andean trekking to Machu Picchu, on a route where only a handful of people walk each day, with proper beds, cooking and showers at the end of each day," says Dave Orrock of Bales Worldwide (08456 345 118; balesworldwide.com).
