THE Foreign and Commonwealth Office (071-270 4129) has updated its advice on travel to Cambodia, saying that military activity has lessened and is now mainly confined to remote areas.

'Banditry is, however, widespread. Visitors intending to travel by road outside Phnom Penh are advised not to travel at night under any circumstances and to join a convoy. Visitors to the Angkor complex should not travel to outlying temples. Contact the British Embassy in Phnom Penh (27124) if intending to travel outside main centres.'

The FCO has also announced that it is to open a Consular Office in Orlando, Florida. Around a million British tourists a year visit the state.
