According to research by American Express, exploring the sights and sounds of the local area makes holidaymakers’ trips most memorable. So when Alex Zane visited Austria’s second-city, Salzburg, he was greeted by the breath-taking natural landscapes that surround the city.
Around 25km outside of Salzburg is the spectacular vantage point, the Five Fingers viewing platform, built 500 metres above ground, protrudes from a sheer rock face with stunning views of the World Heritage Region.
Alternatively, wrap up warm and head to the depths of the Werfen ice caves, the largest in the World and full of mesmerising ice sculptures. With its beautiful Salzkammergut region and its 75 lakes, breath-taking natural landscapes and once-in-a-lifetime activities, Salzburg really does have something for everyone.
In the video above Amex Insider Alex Zane chats to locals and discovers some of the countries secret stories, telling you a few things about this Austrian gem that you might not already know.
