Airbus superjumbo to fly at Paris show after all
Monday 20 June 2011
European planemaker Airbus is to show its A380 superjumbo in flight at the Paris International Airshow after all, the firm said on Monday, after a replacement was found for a jet which lost a wing-tip in a ground crash.
The world's largest passenger aircraft was to have been one of the stars of the trade fair at Le Bourget north of the French capital, but a demonstration version of the model clipped a structure by the taxiway on Sunday.
But another A380, carrying the colours of major client Korean Air has been found, and will make fly pasts for visitors to the show on Monday and Tuesday, an Airbus spokesman said.
Another Airbus, the A400m military transport, was hit by engine trouble but, while it will not take part in the planned aerobatic displays, it was able to take off on Monday to impress visiting President Nicolas Sarkozy.
