The end of the ski season is nigh – which is good news for families in need of some last-minute fun on the piste. Prices are falling as fast as the snow. It's looking particularly good at the luxury end of the market, with companies such as Ski Famille (0845 6443764; www.skifamille.co.uk) cutting prices to less than £500 per adult per week and £345 for children at selected properties, including its newly acquired chalet, Le Chardon in Les Gets. With half-board accommodation, a playroom, outdoor hot tub and five days' in-chalet childcare included, it's perfect for your little darlings once they tire of schussing their way through mogul fields.

Purple Ski (01885 488799; www.purpleski.com) has reductions of up to a third (around £230 per person) on some of its prestigious chalets, including the Chalet Olympie III in Méribel Mottaret. The whole family is looked after in style here with a Jacuzzi and sauna, half-board and qualified nannies on standby.

And for a Swiss-style sojourn, the brand new Solis Cambrian Hotel and Spa in Adelboden, Oberland (00 41 33 6738383 ; www.solisadelboden.com), has just created some "Happy Family" packages. Prices start at around £1,500 for a family of four staying full board for five nights, and they've thrown in jolly extras including kids' massages as well as cocktail and pizza-making lessons. 'Independent on Sunday' readers get a 10 per cent discount by calling the above number or emailing info@solisadelboden.com and quoting "Independent".
