17th Melbourne Spring Fashion Week
Various venues in Melbourne
In the first week of September, Australian fashion is in the spotlight again during the seven-day Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW). Melbourne Spring Fashion Week includes more than 100 free and ticketed public events ranging from street parades to markets, workshops and fashion shows. Melbournites can snap up a bargain at one of the many MSFW sales or watch a fashion parade hosted by their favorite fashion retailer. The event is smaller than the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week or the Sydney Fashion Festival but well-loved by buying consumers.
Taste of Melbourne
Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton
The worldwide series of Taste festivals heads to Australia’s "food capital" for a tour de force of the city’s finest restaurants and produce. Visitors can sample signature dishes created by Melbourne’s top chefs, purchase food and wine to take home and enjoy coffee, cheese, fine wine and cocktails with expert-led tastings. Taste festivals are held annually around the globe in locations such as Birmingham, Auckland, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Dubai, Milan, Edinburgh, Dublin, London and Sydney.
13th Perth Fashion Festival
The Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) is Western Australia’s largest annual fashion event. It showcases a healthy mixture of local and national fashion design talent with both free and ticketed events. In 2011, 136 designers will showcase their fashion forward creations in 40 dazzling events. PFF is a niche event compared to its Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and Mercedes-Benz Sydney Fashion Festival counterparts but the festival is growing in both size and notoriety. More than 44,000 local and international visitors attended PFF in 2010.
