European airport snow delays - where to find more information
Friday 03 December 2010
Heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures have caused widespread travel disruption in Northern Europe.
Airports in the United Kingdom, France and Switzerland have been forced to close their runways due to snow, with the knock-on effect and delays being felt at airports in Germany, Austria and further afield.
Among the major airports hit were Geneva International in Switzerland, London Gatwick (although Heathrow remains open), Edinburgh in Scotland, and EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg on the Franco-Swiss border.
London Gatwick is not expected to reopen until 06:00 GMT on Thursday December 2, but Geneva International plans to reopen at 18:00 CET (17:00 GMT) today, December 1.
Chambery and Grenoble in France are also expected to be closed for the rest of the day, and there are currently long delays airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Prague.
