A legendary group of independent theaters in Texas, Alamo Drafthouse, will take its summer film festival on the road this August with nine free screenings, shown across the US in locations where the films were shot or set.
Called the "Alamo Rolling Roadshow," the series' theme "We Are All Workers" features boxers, cops and oil men in iconic and Oscar-winning films such as On the Waterfront, Dirty Harry and Rocky. The lineup includes the following:
August 6 - Jackie Brown in south Los Angeles at the Del Amo Fashion Mall with an appearance by director Quentin Tarantino (schedule permitting)
August 7 - Dirty Harry starring Clint Eastwood at San Francisco's Washington Square Park
August 8 - There Will Be Blood starring Daniel Day-Lewis at California's Kern County Museum in Bakersfield, California
August 8 - a double-feature of Sam Peckinpah's Convoy and Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen at Ft. Union Drive-In in New Mexico
August 13 - The Blues Brothers with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd at Chicago's Joliet Prison
August 14 - Robocop with Paul Verhoeven's futuristic cops at Detroit's Industrial Center
August 19 - Rocky I-III at the Philadelphia Art Museum where Sylvester Stallone
August 20 - On the Waterfront with Marlon Brando at Hoboken, New Jersey's docks
August 27 - The Godfather, Part II with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro on Manhattan rooftops overlooking near Little Italy
The Alamo cinemas commissioned illustrator Olly Moss to design the retro posters, reflecting the classic look of the Saul Bass title credits for Hitchcock and other directors. His modern takes, all in orange and black, are available at each corresponding screening.
