Great getaways: Dutch bike and barge holiday, Asian adventure, island idyll in Corfu and escape to Cape Town
Dutch delight
On 17 or 24 August, Utracks has a "Family Bike and Barge" holiday around Holland. Starting and ending in Amsterdam (flights extra), it spends a week meandering along the country's myriad waterways, jumping off to cycle along pleasingly flat terrain. It costs £540 per adult and £383 per child, based on a family of four sharing, with all meals, accommodation on board and bicycle hire (utracks.com).
Asian adventure
G Adventures has cut the price of a small group tour to Vietnam on 24 August. The 10-day "Vietnam Hike, Bike and Kayak" trip costs £680pp, excluding flights. Starting in Ho Chi Minh City, it travels to the atmospheric merchant's town of Hoi An, makes a stop in the old Imperial capital of Hue, drops in for a homestay in Mai Chau and finally moves up to Hanoi, with overnight side-trip to Halong Bay (gadventures.co.uk).
Island idyll
On 2 October, Travelbag has a week in Corfu for £499pp with all-inclusive accommodation at the Mitsis Roda Beach Hotel, which has several outdoor pools, a spa and four restaurants on the north coast. The package includes easyJet flights from Gatwick (travelbag.co.uk).
Cape escape
September marks the start of spring in the southern hemisphere – the perfect time to plan a city break to Cape Town. For the price of £808pp, Virgin Holidays is offering a package with four nights at the Protea Hotel President, which has a palm-fringed pool overlooking the Atlantic, with breakfast, transfers and Qatar Airways flights from Heathrow via Doha on 11 September (virginholidays.co.uk).
