Northern limit

Plan an adventure in Norway this summer. The self-guided "Big Five" holiday, offered by the Mighty Fine Holiday Company, is aimed at intrepid travellers willing to hike up to eight hours a day to glimpse spellbinding views. The quintet in question is a collection of the country's natural phenomena, including the Troll's Tongue and Langfoss Waterfall. The seven-night escape has departures until 28 September for £1,218pp with BA flights from Heathrow to Stavanger, B&B hotels and car hire (mightyfinecompany.com).

Highway patrol

Bon Voyage is offering the chance to explore some of America's most scenic highways on a road trip through southern California. The price of £1,795pp includes United flights from Heathrow to Los Angeles (returning Las Vegas) for travel until 30 July, with convertible car hire and room-only accommodation in top hotels, including the desert resort of Palm Springs and a five-star suite in Vegas (bon-voyage.co.uk).

Lake break

A summer escape to the Italian Lakes for under £500: that's the offer from Inghams, which currently has a week's stay in the scenic shoreside town of Salo on Lake Garda for £499pp, with half-board at the Hotel Duomo, transfers and Air Dolomiti flights from Gatwick to Verona on 15 June (inghams.co.uk).

From the art

One off Places is offering a six-night painting holiday in France for £600pp. The trip is based at a 300-year-old farmhouse, Le Perchoir des Paons, in the Lot region near the village of Gindou, from 23-29 June, with full-board, art tuition and materials, but not flights (oneoffplaces.co.uk).
