Summer sail

Virgin Holidays has a week-long Med cruise aboard Thomson's Island Escape for £612pp. Departing on 17 July with flights from Gatwick to Palma (Mallorca), it moves on to Ajaccio (Corsica), La Spezia on the Ligurian coast of Italy, the southern French ports of Villefranche (for Nice) and Toulon, before bobbing to Barcelona and returning to Palma (virginholidayscruises.co.uk).

Andean ascent

Assail the mighty summits of Ecuador on a 16-day climbing tour with World Expeditions. The group trip starts in Quito on 10 November and tackles five of the country's top peaks, including Cotopaxi – the highest volcano in the world – and Ecuador's tallest mountain, Chimborazo. You'll see glaciers and caldera along the way and finish with a ride on the Devil's Nose mountain train. The price of £1,750pp includes hotels, all meals, guides, excursions and transport; flights extra (worldexpeditions.com).

Going, going, gone

Book by 15 July to take advantage of the Kuoni sale. Into the wild

A five-day kayaking trip through the lochs and arresting landscape of the Scottish Highlands is available for £545pp. The course is aimed at beginners and includes hotels, most meals, guided tuition and equipment and all travel. It next departs from Inverness on 21 July (wildernessscotland.com).
