Great getaways: The life aquatic in the Maldives, grape escape in Burguny, a really wild show in Africa, and fly and flop to the Greek islands

The life aquatic

Hayes & Jarvis has a five-star break in the Maldives for £1,249pp. Departing on 1 October with Emirates flights from Gatwick via Dubai, the package includes speed boat transfers and a week's half-board at Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort in South Male Atoll, which has a string of idyllic rooms and villas, three restaurants and watersports for exploring the archipelago's prized aquatic life (hayesandjarvis.co.uk).

Grape escape

Sherpa Expeditions has a one-week cycling holiday along a section of the "Route des Grands Crus" in Burgundy – a 60km road that links Dijon with Santenay, passing picturesque villages and vineyards. The self-guided trip departs daily until the end of October, costing £795pp with B&B hotels, two evening meals, bike hire and equipment, but not transport to Beaune, where the trip starts and ends (sherpa-walking-holidays.co.uk).

Really wild show

On 24 August, Explore's "East African Explorer" visits Kenya and Tanzania, stopping at Lake Victoria, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Maasai Mara in time to witness the Great Migration. It costs £2,298pp with Kenya Airways flights from Heathrow, 11 nights' camping and one in a hotel, all meals, transfers and guides (explore.co.uk).

Fly and flop

Last-minute breaks to the Greek Islands are plentiful this month, but for an option with a touch of class you might wait until 28 August. Travelbag has a deal Monarch flights from Luton to Corfu for a week's all-inclusive stay at the Mareblue Beach Resort on the north-east coast for £489pp (travelbag.co.uk).
