Royal Caribbean's new cruise liner is to host the hit musical
Chicago, the company confirmed May 6.
Chicago: The Musical is set to be the headline performance in the 1,380-seat theater on board Allure of the Seas, which will depart on her maiden voyage December 12.
Auditions begin in June in the cities of Chicago, London and New York for the sea-going performance of Chicago: The Musical, which is to be condensed to 90 minutes.
Previously, the show has been shown at the Ambassador Theater on New York's Broadway and the Cambridge Theatre in London's West End.
"We're very excited at the opportunity to partner with Royal Caribbean, and we look forward to entertaining even more guests each week with the story of Chicago," said Barry Weissler, who produces Chicago: The Musical on Broadway.
The 225,282 Allure of the Seas is set to share the title of the largest cruise liner in the world with her sister ship, Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas.
Other entertainment shows planned include Blue Planet, an aerial acrobatic show, OceanAria, an aquatic production and Studio B, an ice show on the ship's ice rink.
She will carry 5,400 passengers in some 2,700 staterooms and will sail from Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
Thanks to the growth of full-size auditoriums on cruise ships, travelers on the high seas can currently enjoy a broader range of entertainment than ever before.
Oasis of the Seas currently hosts award-winning musical Hairspray, while the Norwegian Epic, which launches in June, features entertainment from the Blue Man Group.
