Hotel chain takes Croatian properties upmarket with rebranding
Monday 10 May 2010
Spanish holiday group Sol Melia has relauched two of its resorts on the Croatian Umag coast as upmarket destinations, hoping to capitalize on the region's growing tourism appeal.
The group's newly reopened resorts Melia Coral and Melia Istrian Villas were previously part of the group's midrange Sol brand and officially reopened as luxury Melia resorts on May 5.
The Melia Istrian Villas resort comprises 180 villas along the Umag coastline, each with their own terrace and bedroom, living room, bathroom, dining room and kitchen.
The complex also includes a beachside restaurant and electric vehicles for the use of guests - cars are banned within the resort.
The luxury villas in the resort's private village also feature a whirlpool bath and private beach.
Melia Coral is a 244-room property that includes a tapas bar, Mediterranean tavern and outside leisure areas including a beach club.
According to a recent survey by the European Union, Croatia is in the top three destinations for people from seven European countries, suggesting that the country is likely to continue its impressive tourism growth to date.
This year, Lufthansa, Wizz Air, Ryanair and Germanwings have all announced increased scheduled to the country, along with Croatian flag-carrier Croatia Airlines.
