An international hotel group has launched a new promotion that offers up to 50 percent off member hotels located in countries of successful World Cup teams.

Guests booking at one of Design Hotels' 26 participating establishments will receive a discount depending on how far the country that hotel is located in advances in the tournament.

The discounts available range from ten percent during the group stage to 50 percent if a room is booked in one of the countries that makes it to the final.

The rates are only available during the period of the stage though - so to receive the 40 percent reduction during the semi-final stage for example, guests must have booked to stay at a hotel in a country that makes it through to the semi-finals between July 6 - 10.

The promotion is available at hotels in some World Cup favorite locations, including Brazil, France, Germany, England, Italy, Mexico, Portugal and Spain, but if the country drops out, the room rate reverts to the full price - making the package quite a gamble.

Design Hotels is the latest but not the first travel firm to jump on the World Cup bandwagon, which is not always a smooth ride - budget South African carrier Kulula found itself in legal trouble with FIFA earlier year after cheekily referring to itself as the "unofficial national carrier of the you-know-what."
