Las Vegas to host 'fabulous' LGBT weekend
Tuesday 27 July 2010
Las Vegas luxury hotel chain MGM Mirage is to host a "Fabulous" LGBT party weekend in Las Vegas, the firm announced last week.
Over the weekend of August 12-15, MGM Mirage - which owns some of Las Vegas's most iconic hotels and casinos - visitors will be able to pick one of four LGBT themes packages in Sin City.
The resorts package will be available in establishments including the new ARIA, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, Luxor and Excalibur.
Each hotel's pool bar will be serving up special drinks between noon and 19:00, offering a happy hour between 17:00 and 19:00 and Mandalay Bay's LOGO Lounge will be hosting meet and greets with celebrities, sponsors and other "Fabulous" visitors.
In the evenings, select packages will include tickets to to the sold-out Monster Ball starring Lady Gaga, tickets to Zumanity, the sensual side of Cirque du Soleil, and private parties at ROK Vegas and Studio 54.
Other events include meeting out chef Susan Feniger at her restaurant Border Grill, blackjack and slot tournaments with the casts of stage shows Thunder from Down Under and FANTASY, docents' tours of the Fine Art Collection at CityCenter and fashion events at Crystals, Las Vegas's new shopping district.
MGM Mirage is an established and popular name in the LGBT community, thanks in part to its strong presence in Las Vegas, the third-most popular destination for American LGBT travelers after New York and San Francisco.
Since 2009 though, it has recently faced an aggressive push from rival Harrah's, a casino firm that owns properties in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, which spearheaded an "OUT in Atlantic City" weekend aiming to raise the profiles of its casinos with the gay community.
Earlier this year, new startup G Worldwide announced that it would bring an LGBT resort to Las Vegas too, one of five resorts planned by the "LGBT Luxury Lifestyle Resort" collection.
