We targeted three companies for their best offer on a southern African safari: a luxury trip with Safari Consultants, a self-drive expedition with Expert Africa and a family adventure with Scott Dunn. Prices are per person, with the family package based on two adults and two children travelling, and the others based on two adults sharing.

Luxury, £7,035 - Botswana

The Safari Consultants trip includes BA flights on 18 April from Heathrow to Johannesburg, onward Air Botswana flights to Maun, a week's all-inclusive tented accommodation in the Okavango Delta, wildlife viewing activities and transfers (01787 888590; safari-consultants.com).

Self-drive, £1,838 - Namibia

Expert Africa's self-drive trip includes South African Airways flights from Heathrow to Windhoek via Johannesburg on 25 April, and eight nights' lodge accommodation in Namibia. The price also covers some meals, but not park fees (020 8232 9777; expertafrica.com).

Family, £4,255 - Zambia

Scott Dunn's offer includes Emirates flights from Heathrow to Lusaka via Dubai, departing 28 March, internal flights, five nights' all-inclusive at Luangwa Safari House in South Luangwa National Park, and park fees and a game drive or walk (020 8682 5070; scottdunn.com).
