The Bloody Mary's heady hair-of-the-dog mix has been reviving sorry souls for nearly a century. The man behind it was Fernand Petiot, a Frenchman who first concocted the cocktail in a Parisian bar in 1921 and later moved to New York to become chief bartender at The St Regis hotel. Now, in honour of Petiot's contribution to cocktail menus the world over, the St Regis Resort in Bali has introduced a Bloody Mary ritual to its Remède Spa. It begins with a tomato and wasabi body scrub, followed by a vodka clay wrap, a detoxifying massage and, finally, a tomato vermouth salt bath. The indulgent experience is rounded off by guzzling freshly shucked oysters beneath a gazebo, while gazing out to a lily-covered pond.
St Regis Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali (00 62 361 8478 111; stregisbali.com). Doubles from US$633 (£422), with transfers, breakfast and the 150-minute Bloody Mary ritual at the Remède Spa.
