For ultimate cosiness, follow Andrew's advice and make for the bijou, 19th-century Chateau les Loches. A grandiose B&B, where dinners rich with local produce can also be arranged, the chateau "sits in the middle of 154 hectares of forest in the Ardennes", outside the village of Mazerny and around 40 minutes' drive from Reims. "Its ante-room and dining room are heated by fragrant log stoves, while wild boar roam around outside," says Andrew.
