The Berlin Wall was a symbol of brutal supression, denial of civil liberty, democratic government, market oriented economy and religious freedom. Despite merciless retribution for uprising and revolutions behind the iron curtain the will of the people prevailed eventually. Neverthelass Israel and USA siince resorted to protect their territory with contoversial walls. From an economist's perspective outlandish investment for erction and maintenance of a wall stretching from the Pacific to the Gulf od Mexico so far only raised prohibited drug's domestic street price and smuggler's profit. Illegal immigration was only marginally affected, but quickly responded to the current recession. Demanf regulated supply more effdectivdely tthan political fata morgana. Will history repeat itself?

To tell the truth Check point Charlie in Berlin still looks rather unattractive, this is probably because the aura of this place is so gloomy
