From Sebastiao Salgado to Scotland's newest castle hotel

Sebastiao Salgado's epic photographic journey Genesis goes on display at the Natural History Museum in London from Thursday. The collection charts the photographer's eight-year odyssey through 32 countries, depicting some of the most untouched landscapes on the planet. Until 8 September (nhm.ac.uk; £10).

Building blocks

A new Legoland Hotel is now open at the main entrance to the Californian resort in San Diego yesterday, with themed guestrooms, Lego play areas and nightly entertainment for children. Guests staying at the resort also get early access to selected rides and attractions in the park (california.legoland.com).

The year the Mary Rose sank. Tickets go on sale on Monday for a new £27m museum in Portsmouth dockyard, where the Tudor warship was built. It will chart the ship's course from ruin to recovery from 31 May (historicdockyard.co.uk).

Highland fling

Fonab is Scotland's newest castle hotel. Opened near the Perthshire town of Pitlochry this month, it features lashings of dark-wood panelling, open fires and a stash of locally-distilled whiskies, with a Sandemans fine dining restaurant and scenic views of Loch Faskally and the Highlands (fonabcastlehotel.com).

Luxury for little ones

Mr & Mrs Smith has launched a new website, Smith & Family, which reviews places to stay based on their suitability for families; there are also hints at where kids can stay free (smithandfamily.co.uk).
